Google’s Nav App for G1! Awesomely Awesome!!!

Just realized that the google folks just made their free navigation application available to android 1.6 users. That means G1 owners can now get in on the action! This means Christmas just came a few weeks early for some folks who were thinking that they were going to need some xda action to get there navigation on. I did a video on it and it works great. Here are a few tidbits:

Its a little slow on the G1

Don’t get me wrong here. It works and quite well at that, but it could stand to be a little snappier. However, I’d have to say that beggers can be choosers on this one. Its a free navigation app, with street view and voice prompting.

Different Layers

I liked this part. They offer different layers such as satellite, transit lines, traffic, latitude. They may add more layers in the future, but I’d say they already have a pretty useful bunch to work with as is.

Street View With Compass Mode

Yup, you can see your next turn in google’s street view so that tricky slight left turn that you have to veer to the right for is suddenly not so tricky. You see it coming miles away and can prepare for it. Its also got compass mode, so you can see what your turns look like in real-time as you drive. However, I recommend you keep your eyes on the road, but thats just me.

All in all, I loved it, and can’t wait to test it out for real. Stay tuned for video.

Tony Hawk Ride Coming Soon

Remember we wrote an article about Tony Hawk’s new video game called Ride? We barely do too, but its coming out soon, and we got a chance to check it out briefly.

To be honest, its one of those things where you know its a hot concept, but your iffy on real-life use. Don’t get us wrong, we think it’ll be tons of fun for the true gamer and/or skater – as well as the posers. However, it seemed little cumbersome… seems like it takes lots of activity to pull off tricks, and personally, I’d rather be in much more relaxed position whilst wasting time playing video games. Also, the board felt a little less sturdy then we would have liked. But to be fair, the board we checked out wasn’t production. Still, we just aren’t too sure we are willing to mack out $120.00 bucks for the bundle. We’ll probably step in when it gets below a hundred. Let us know how you feel in the comments section.

Sony Ericsson “Motions” Forward with MH907

Sony Ericsson thinks they have a game changer here with their new headset. The hype they had was crazy…and honestly I’m a little underwhelmed. Now that’s not to say that it isn’t a good idea for the headset to recognize gestures, but I thought it was going to be a little more in depth. The gestures are just inserting and reinserting the ear-buds, which if you ask me will just get annoying over time or give me some rash in my ear from all the chaffing.  I thought they were going to go the route of increasing and decreasing the volume based on brain impulses. That would’a been far cooler. Alas, guess I got to write that one down and do it before someone else does! But if you are still interested it comes in three colors for now…yellow, white, and titan chrome.  Click on the image to see the cool promotional video.

PSP3 slim….Finally

If you thought the PS3 was a bit bulky for your taste, you have company. That’s been a complaint for a while…that along with the hefty price tag. However, both have been addressed by Sony which will be offering a slim version of its PS3 in September, as well as a price cut of the 80 gig model of the original PS3. You can find more details over at Engadget. This is most-likely what the procrastinators have been waiting for. Time for some blue-ray goodness!

Mos Def: The Eccstatic

Ecstatic Album

Aiight yall,

I’ve actually been waiting on new material from Mos Def for a while. His last album, in my opinion, was lacking some oomph. A friend put it this way: “There was no fire behind what he was doing…no sense of urgency, or sense that it was possible for him to change the game up.” Personally,  it felt like his last two albums were really experiments. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that they were put out there, but I just couldn’t get the excitement level up to where I thought it should be… until now.

You can take a listen to the entire Ecstatic Album here. Now doesn’t it sound a little different??? For one, he’s rapping which is always a plus. A business man should always know what business he’s in. The beats he has chosen this time around are great too, and have excellent atmospheric presence. An example would be “Wahid”. Also, his lyrical skills don’t seem to have aged a day with rhymes such as: “The eyes grow teary, the mind grows weary, I speak so clearly sometimes y’all don’t hear me. I push it past the base, know nations got to feel me” – Auditorium.  .

Secondly, take a listen to “History”.  Its featuring Talib, and he drops some ill verses as well as some inferences that I very happy with. He seems to allude to (yes thats right) another Blackstar Album!!!! He even mentions that it was like ten years ago, which I can’t believe! But I guess it has been that long. Well hurry up ya’ll! I aint gettin any younger!

New Metal Gear Solid Game…Again!!

Yeah, so Kojima is up to his old tricks and has come out with yet another MGS game. If you check the E3 Video below you’ll see like 4 different Snakes. Must be Solid, Liquid, Gaseous,  and…random other Snake. Now, I was confused about the storyline before, but now I’m really confused. I’m also not sure if this is playable on psp, or for the new PSP-go.  Video below for your enjoyment!

Xbox360, Playstation 3 FIGHT!!!…for second!!!

Microsoft has this cool new attachment for the Xbox360 that will recognize the human frame, and mimic its every move, transmitting the data in-game. The result will be a controller-less gaming experience! Imagine, racing…with no physical steering wheel, just pretending ( you know, like you used to do in the mirror). Well now the mirror will respond to your every movement. True, Nintendo was first with the motion sensitive approach which everyone must give credit for…but this is kinda taking it to the next step. However, I’m from the old school and need something physical in my hands to let me know I’m still in reality! You can check  video below:

Sony, not to be outdone…again, has finally moved its slow, heavy, corporate hands in protest, and has come up with a wand-like device. The 1-1 movement ratio is pretty impressive, but the controller looks so weird. Like something from an old sci-fi movie. It also changes colors (ooooh for emphasis).  Yeah, its nice and all, but in my opinion too little too late…however the virtual world they have in the demo is kinda hot. Maybe they should play up that angle instead of arriving to the party late all the time!

Google demos new “Wave” product

Guys, this may be the next generation of communication happening before our very eyes. The demo is a marathon clocking in at just over an hour, but its filled with lots of goodies, and a few computer crashes!

Demo communication that dynamically updates as you type! So imagine, your instant messaging your friend, but you can see the words as they type instantaneously! Also, you can merge that IM message, send to another friend, and they can replay the whole thing as if it was a movie. If thats not enough, you can also just post the entire dialogue to a blog and respond through the “wave” if you like, which can update the blog as well!!! Awesome goodies in store for the future my children. If you don’t want to sit through the entire thing, at least get to the end…it’ll be well worth it! you can check the link below:
